Disclosure: I received a free copy of 365 Snacks for Every Day of the Year, however all opinions are my own.
Hi, my name is Lindsey and I am a hard core snacker. I love snacks and crowned myself many years ago as the queen of snacks. However, I feel like I may need to turn that title over to Registered Dietitian, Sarah Koszyk, author of 365 Snacks for Every Day of the Year. I mean, c’mon, she came up with 3-6-5 snacks!!
I’m always looking for new snacks ideas that are healthy, quick and easy, will tide me over until the next meal, and are super tasty. Sarah’s pretty much got ya covered with all of these requirements. She came up with quick snacks, snacks that require some preparation, and others that are purely from convenience stores. Plus, everything is under 250 calories.
I love how chapters of snacks are divided:
-
At home
-
At school or work
-
On the go
-
At a convenience store
-
For your sweet tooth
Yes! Healthy snacks when you’re in the mood for a little something sweet! There’s basically a snack for every occasion and situation in this easy to read book. I always have snacks with me in the car and in my purse, so I really appreciate the fact that Sarah also gives out options for those types of situations. It can be hard to know what snacks at the convenience store are healthy! Does your mind go blank when staring at rows of junk food? Just having a list of ideas like Hot Cereal Oatmeal Cups, KIND Fruit and Nut Bars, and Pretzels & Cheddar Cheese Sticks will keep you on target and headed to the check out line with healthier options in tow.
In the book, she explains how snacks are good for us and how to create the perfect snack. Basically by combining at least two food groups into one snack, you should be able to cover a range of nutrients (fruits, veggies, grains/starches, protein/meat, fat and dairy). You always want to try to make a snack combo that contains protein AND carbs. This combination will help to keep us full until our next meal.
I meal prepped some snacks for the next few days, making the Black Beans with Salsa Salad on page 49 and the Deli Meat, Celery and Cheese Roll Ups on page 43. The black bean salad was super easy with only 3 ingredients that I dumped into a mason jar: black beans, salsa and plain Greek yogurt. I used a spicy green tomatillo salsa for a nice kick! For the roll ups, I used sliced turkey and thinly sliced swiss cheese. Both snacks were very tasty and took only a few minutes to prepare.
What’s next on my snack list? I think I’ll try out something from the For Your Sweet Tooth chapter! Perhaps the Banana and Chocolate “Quesadilla” or the Date Rolls with Coconut and Almonds! Both sound amazing! I definitely recommend 365 Snacks for Every Day of the Year to anyone with a mouth and who likes food!
Love that the book is broken down into different chapters! Such a great idea. This cookbook is definitely going on my wishlist!
